Workplace Ergonomics - Key to Good Health, More Energy, and Less Pain

Since more people are working from home and don’t have the best set-up for ideal ergonomics, more people are experiencing these symptoms.

Thankfully, there are steps you can take (whether you’re working from home or an office) that will help reduce the risk of pain and injury – and your McKinney chiropractor can help.

4 Steps to Improved Workplace Ergonomics

Your McKinney chiropractor can help reduce pain from spinal misalignment and injury. They can also provide you with various lifestyle recommendations, including those that will help you improve your workplace ergonomics.

1. Try to Maintain Neutral Posture

Proper posture is also referred to as neutral posture. Whenever you’re sitting or standing, you want to have proper alignment throughout your body to reduce muscle tension and joint strain.

Avoid slouching while standing or sitting. When sitting at your desk, raise your computer screen, so you’re able to look at it straight on instead of looking down at it.

Additionally, make sure to keep your knees and elbows bent at a 90-degree angle while working at your desk. If necessary, get a footrest to achieve neutral posture while sitting.

2. Get a Designated Office Chair

Sitting on a dining room chair or the couch will result in poor posture and discomfort. Invest in an actual office chair, one that’s adjustable to your height needs and has enough cushion to make long work sessions more comfortable.

3. Take Regular Breaks

Spending long periods sitting or looking down at an electronic device can lead to back and neck pain. Take a break every hour (if possible) to stand up, walk around, and stretch.

4. Exercise Often

If possible, exercise three to five days a week, utilizing a mix of cardio, resistance training, and flexibility exercises. The more you move your body, the better you’ll feel. You’ll have less pain and more energy, both of which will increase productivity.
